ELKHART, Ind.--- Elkhart General Hospital celebrated “Topping Off” construction of the new Surgery Center Expansion Project today.
A "Topping Off" ceremony was held at Elkhart General celebrating the final steel beam being put in place.
The beam was signed with well wishes and was then hoisted on top of the surgery center.
“We've got a long ways to go,” said Mark Bralick, Director of Construction. “We have a solid year and several months. We have an anticipated month of August 2015, so we've got a long ways to go, but this is one of the big milestone steps of having the last piece of steel or top piece of steel put into the building.”
The new construction includes new surgical and endoscopy suites as well as 43 private patient rooms for post-surgery care.
The total cost of the project is around $75 million.
