Elkhart County’s unemployment rate jumped last month, returning to 9 percent.

New numbers from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development show St. Joseph's unemployment rate at 9.1 percent.
Statewide, Indiana’s unemployment rate stands at 8 percent, less than the national percentage of 9.8. This marks the first time in nearly four years that the nationwide rate dropped to single digits.
Leading economists predicted the unemployment rate would stay in double digits through 2013.
