For the first time, Elkhart County is supporting the city of Elkhart in a disagreement over a water/ sewer compact with residents outside of city limits.

The Elkhart Truth reports that the county is no longer blocking the city's ability to turn off sewer service to 14 holdouts in the Valley View Hills subdivision.

Though county commissioners still disagree with the city's plans, they've granted a permit to block the right of way on the county road through the neighborhood so that the city can turn off sewer service.

The county is now encouraging residents to sign the new compact agreement.

This follows months of heated discussions between the city and even state officials.
