The burn ban in Elkhart County has been lifted.
County commissioners made the decision Monday morning. Officials are still urging citizens to be cautious due to isolated areas that are dry and may be more susceptible to fire.
The use of fireworks is still restricted despite the end of the burn ban.
“Lifting of the burn ban does not allow residents in the unincorporated part of the county to use, discharge or ignite fireworks,” said county commissioners in a press release.
Fireworks restrictions were in place during the Fourth of July holiday and prevented residents from using them during celebrations. Commissioners will consider an exemption to date restrictions on fireworks use to make up for the setbacks encountered on Independence Day.
