Elkhart Monday night's Elkhart City Council meeting will be watched closely by bicycling enthusiasts who want to see the city pass a three-foot passing distance for drivers.

Last month, the city's health and public safety committee gave the measure a favorable recommendation, which will be formally presented to the full council Monday night.

According to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth, advocates hope the measure will promote safety and bike-friendliness.

The proposal includes a $25 fine for violations.
