With flags waving, kindergarteners and first graders at Mishawaka's Emmons Elementary paraded into the gym.
The entire school gave a musical salute to the men and women who served and continue to serve in the five military branches. It is an annual event to educate and honor.
"The friends that I lost were in the infantry and they were ahead of us all the time. And I would see them from time to time,” said Vince Meribela, Army 99th Infantry Division, WWII. “ And I lost two or three of them there, and they were unlucky, I was lucky. About a thousand of our people in my division were unlucky if you want to call it that.”
If you would like to help salute a veteran, you can contact Emmons Elementary School at (574) 254-4600.
They are working with the Blue Star Mothers, collecting items to send to the troops.
