Egg drop contest held at Andrews University Thursday

You could see it as either the ultimate test of engineering skills, or one potentially messy way to spend an afternoon.

Thursday Andrews University students were dropping eggs from the roof of a three-story building on campus.

At stake was bragging rights, over who could create the slowest and "coolest" landing for the eggs with the least padding.

The egg drop contest is in its fourth year, and student participants say it's fun to see the different ideas their classmates come up with.

The winners of this year's challenge say teamwork and creativity led them to victory.

“We just had an idea of what we wanted to do, and we wanted to include the cannon in it because we figured that would be really fun,” said Timothy Iuliano a Junior at Andrews University. “So we threw a couple ideas together and then just went with it, and made a couple prototypes and changed it as we needed to go. And just had fun with it on the way.”

The Department of Engineering and Computer Sciences put on the contest. The three top teams received prizes.
