According to Gas Buddy, on Tuesday, the national average for a gallon of gas was $3.67. The average in Indiana was about $3.70 and $3.75 in Michigan.
Prices at the pump have been steadily climbing since early July when the average was about $3.50 per gallon.
That's why folks across the country are looking for ways to save in other ways, especially considering the cost of crude oil could still increase due to uncertainty in Egypt and the atlantic.
Start with your car. An oil change and regular maintenance can help the vehicle perform at its peak operating condition. Removing excess clutter from its trunk, and checking tire pressure can help with fuel efficiency.
The biggest saver will still come from the price of gas. Shop around for the best price. An extra mile or two can be worth the travel. Gas Buddy says the difference between the cheapest and the most expensive has been as high as 70 cents.
Also, look for discounts and rewards. Grocery receipts, smartphone apps and reward cards can save as much as $1 per gallon.
