A Dowagiac teenager accused of bringing guns and ammunition onto school property earlier this year, took a plea deal this week in the case.

Phillip Kocsis, 17, pleaded guilty to an added count of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of disturbing the peace.

The Dowagiac Union High School junior was originally facing eight weapons-related charges, five of them felonies.

As part of a plea agreement, those charges were dismissed in exchange for Kocsis pleading guilty to the two counts.
Back in September, Dowagiac school resource officers received a tip that a student had weapons inside his car on campus.

They searched Kocsis's vehicle and found a 12-gage shotgun, an M1 rifle, ammunition for both and a KA-BAR knife.

Kocsis is scheduled to be sentenced on January 25.

The penalty for carrying a concealed weapon is five years, while disturbing the peace is a 90-day misdemeanor.
