ELKHART, Ind. A local group is trying to help an Elkhart mother pay for her son's funeral expenses.

18-year-old Devonte Patrick was shot to death Monday and found in the parking lot of Prairie Street Mennonite Church.

Police have said the shooting is not a random act, but do not have anyone in custody.

According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, the total cost of a funeral service, visitation, and burial exceeds $6,000.

The Elkhart Advocates of Peace and Justice are now helping Patrick's mother collect donations.

The group is hoping to collect the money by 8 a.m. Monday.
