St. Joseph Co. Michigan St. Joseph County Central Dispatch in Michigan is struggling with a pocket dialing problem. They put out a plea, asking people to take precautions to avoid making the mistake.

That's because they say they get dozens of pocket dials every day, and they actually have to respond to every one of those calls. That takes up valuable resources and time they could spend on real emergencies.

Why do pocket dials happen? A lot of people program 911 into their speed dial, but officials say you shouldn't do that, because 911 is already meant to be easy to dial in.

You can also help by keeping your phone in a pouch or case.
