Diaz to be sentenced in deadly drunk driving crash

South Bend He pleaded guilty after killing two of his friends in a drunk driving crash, and Thursday, he'll hear his sentence.

Jose Diaz, 26, entered a plea agreement last month on two counts of driving under the influence, causing death, both Class B felonies.

The crash happened in December on Ironwood, near the intersection with Ridgedale.

Jonathan Hernandez, 17, died at the scene, and Marco Espino, 24, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Both victims were passengers in Diaz' car.

Diaz was also critically injured, but he survived. His sentencing hearing is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
