The national Democratic Party's platform committee is meeting in Detroit to discuss party positions ahead of a convention next month in North Carolina.
The committee will discuss the draft platform worked out two weeks ago in Minneapolis and possibly come up with amendments.
The platform committee is chaired by Mayor Cory Booker of Newark, N.J., and retired Army Lt. Gen. Claudia Kennedy.
A draft of the Democratic Party's platform includes support for gay marriage for the first time. The meeting takes place Saturday at the Marriott hotel at the Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit.
