Cursive may be added to state curriculum in Ind.
Students in Indiana may now be required to once again learn how to write in cursive.
In 2011, the Indiana Department of Education dropped cursive writing from the required portion of school curriculum in the state. Instead, schools were informed that students needed to become more proficient in typing and keyboard use.
On Wednesday Jan. 9, the Indiana State Senate’s Education Committee held a hearing on a cursive writing bill that, if passed, would require all public school districts and accredited private elementary schools to teaching cursive in the classroom.
The committee did not vote on the bill today, but they are expected to discuss the proposition in greater depth next week.
