Elkhart, Ind. An Elkhart family is looking for answers nearly a year after their little girl was shot and killed during a home invasion.
On August 17, 2012, around 10:15 p.m., then 7-year-old Kristyana Jackson and her mother, Kimi Jackson, had just pulled in their driveway, coming home from a football game. As they walked up to the house, two or three men wearing handkerchiefs approached them. The father was inside the home at the time and tried to protect his family but was shot several times in the process. Kristyana was shot in the head and later died.
The family just celebrated Kristyana’s 8th birthday back in April. Her mom, Kimi Jackson, says as the days go by it hasn’t gotten any easier.
“If anybody knows anything, please call in and say something to Crime Stoppers,” Jackson said. “If this is your child, you would not want to go through what we go through every single day.”
Lt. Cindy Kilgore from Crime Stoppers says there has to be someone out there who knows more information that could help police find Kristyana’s killer.
“The investigators, every one of them in that unit at Elkhart City Police, are driven by this case every day,” said Kilgore. “It is forefront in their minds every day.”
A $6,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest, funded by donations.
