Michiana Crime Stoppers is working on a case dating back two and a half decades, thanks to recent developments in the investigation.
27-year-old Mark Murphy was inside the former Iceberg Lounge at Prairie and Indiana in South Bend on September 26, 1988.
He became upset when two women got into an argument, and he walked out. Several minutes later a passerby found Murphy lying in the street and ran into the bar to get someone to call 911. Two paramedics and a police officer coincidentally passed by within moments of his collapse and attempted to give him CPR. But South Bend Police Lieutenant Cindy Kilgore says none of those professionals saw anyone around the scene who could have fired the gun.
“At first they thought he had been hit by a car,” she says. “But eventually they opened his shirt and saw the gun shot wound.”
Murphy was eventually rushed to the hospital but died.
Anyone with information on the case should call Crime Stoppers at (574) 288 STOP or (800) 342-STOP.
