A home in rural St. Joseph County kept emergency crews from multiple departments busy on Sunday morning.

The incident happened in the 14000 block of Osborne Rd. The homeowners informed dispatch about the blaze around 9:15 a.m.

Firefighters from the South Bend, Madison Township, Penn Township, and Union Township departments assisted on scene.

A middle-aged couple owns the home. Family members of the couple tell Newscenter 16 they purchased the property within the last month and were renovating it before officially moving in.

The couple says they had just pulled up to the property when the noticed the fire. The blaze started in the basement, but flames tore through the floor boards. The outside of the structure is still intact, but there was a significant amount of damage done inside.

This isn’t the first time the couple has experienced damage to a home. Back in 2007, they lost a house when a tornado tore through the town of Nappanee.

No one was injured during Sunday's fire.
