Crews battle fire in Sister Lakes

VAN BUREN COUNTY It took the teamwork of seven fire departments to extinguish a house fire in Van Buren County, before it got out of control.

Fire threatened a home near Sister Lakes, in the 51,000 block of Garret Road, on Tuesday. Crews responded to reports of smoke and flames coming from the garage.

The fire quickly escalated to a 2 alarm fire and neighboring fire departments were called in to help. It took 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Luckily, the only person inside the house at the time escaped unharmed. 3 dogs and 2 guinea pigs were saved from the structure. The family's cars were also saved, though up to $40,000 worth of damage was done.

No fire made it into the home.
