SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Police are now saying that a crash which closed down Ironwood Drive for hours on Sunday left two people dead.

Officials at the scene near Ridgedale in South Bend were originally unable to confirm any injuries.

However, on Monday, the St. Joseph County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team reported that passenger Jonathan Hernandez, 17, was found dead at the scene. Another passenger -- Marco Espino, 24,-- was pronounced dead at the hospital. Jose Diaz, 26, was driving the car and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The crash happened about a half a block south of Ridgedale, near the intersection of Ridgedale and Ironwood. A stretch of Ironwood from Ewing Ave. south to Inwood Rd. in South Bend was then closed for hours.

The car was reportedly headed south when it crashed into a utility pole.

Live power lines were also down in the area. I&M was on site to clean up the lines.

Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash.

They are continuing their investigation to see if drugs or alcohol played a role.
