Semi crash sends five to the hospital, closes U.S. 31

St. Joseph County, Ind. Part of U.S. 31 was shut down Friday night as emergency responders cleaned up after a crash that injured five people and involved two semi-trucks and a car.

It happened around 10:15 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. 31 and Miller Road, north of New Road and just south of South Bend.

Four people in the car were injured along with one of the semi drivers. All five were taken to the hospital.

Debris from the crash could be seen littered across much of the 4-lane closed road.

According to the driver of one semi-truck that was hit, the car crossed the center line, clipped one semi and hit another semi straight on. The semis were southbound while the car was northbound.

There were no fatalities, according to the driver of the truck that was clipped.
