A South Bend man who was accused of beating three puppies to death was back in court today.

Joseph Perry faces multiple counts of mutilating an animal.

The remains of the three puppies were discovered in August behind Perry’s home on Ironwood Road.

Perry originally did an on-camera interview with NewsCenter16 saying he was not in town when the puppies died.

He then tried to push the blame on a friend who he told police had been caring for the dog’s in Perry’s absence.

This friend could not be found.

Perry’s next court appearance is September 18 and his trial is set to begin on October 21.
