A South Bend Common Councilman has a date set for a court hearing on charges he drove drunk the wrong way on the bypass.

Henry Davis Jr. was arrested early Saturday morning.

He failed field sobriety tests and told police his balance was off, not because of alcohol, but because he said he has multiple sclerosis.

The council member refused to take an official breath test after his arrest, but he blew a .14 on a portable breathalyzer in the field.

Davis was released from jail after posting $500 bond.

Council President Oliver Davis said in a statement the council will follow whatever the courts recommend in moving forward.

Henry Davis Jr. will be back in court August 11.
