St. Joe County--- A St. Joe County couple is thankful their house is ok after a large tree in their yard was struck by lightning.

They weren't home at the time, but came home to find the power was out.

There was also a strong smell of gas in the area.

That's when they looked in their backyard and noticed a tree had been struck by lightning.

The current had also apparently traveled through the nearby fence causing quite a bit of damage.

It also blew up a part of their circuit breaker and knocked out their telephone line.

“We’ve been told lightning is very dangerous, lightning is very powerful,” said Kay Holmes. “Never could have imagined. We're just lucky when we came home our house was standing. And we have a home and we thank the Lord.”

The couple is glad none of their cattle or donkeys were injured during the storm.
