County recycles 30 million pounds

St. Joseph County is saving record tonnage from the landfills, recycling it instead.

The Department of Solid Waste Management reports the county recycled an astounding amount of materials of all sorts:

  • 30 million pounds of glass, plastic and paper

  • 265,000 pounds of electronics

  • 15,950 gallons of paint

  • 5,115 gallons of oil

  • 880 gallons of anti-freeze

  • 1,600 tires

  • 4,400 light bulbs

  • 36,000 feet of fluorescent bulbs
