MISHAWAKA, Ind. New business plans have been introduced to the Mishawaka Plan Commission and they are allowing a giant retailer to be located in the northern Mishawaka area.
Costco will now be joining the other major retailers in Mishawaka.
Memorial Hospital submitted a petition requesting to amend the 500 block of Cass Road and East University Drive so developers can build on the property.
The major commercial retailer would be directly across the street from Granger Community Church and next to the Super Target.
Committee members began the process this evening as the board unanimously passed the petition.
Some are excited about the opportunities the business would bring to the community and the city.
“Anyone who wants to come to the city of Mishawaka is more than welcome to open a business here,” said Don McCampbell, a commission member. "I think Costco will be a great asset to Mishawaka and it'll employ a number of people. They have very good, very good benefits. Their pay wage is very good also."
The Costco representative did not make a comment tonight, but the board expects to hear the big plans soon.
Details about the facility layout may be introduced during the next committee meeting, but is expected within the upcoming months.
