Cooley proposes to girlfriend at Notre Dame hoops banquet

Jack Cooley was enjoying his last night as a member of the Notre Dame basketball family.

He sat in the team locker room and signed autographs for fans as part of the program's "Evening with Notre Dame Basketball" event at Purcell Pavilion.

The event is a change of pace from the traditional banquet format and always fans to interact more closely with the Irish coaches and players.

"It's a little bittersweet but we will have to see how it ends, there could be some surprises in store for tonight--we will have to just wait and see," Cooley said around 5:30pm.

What in the world was he talking about. Surely, it wasn't in reference to being named the team MVP during the awards portion of the evening. That you knew was coming.

As it turned out--Cooley was hinting at something very big. At the end of his senior speech, Jack proposed to his girlfriend of three and half years Jackie Oberlander.

She said yes.

Now, that's one senior speech that won't ever be topped.

It's been a good week for Cooley who just returned from the a successful display in the Portsmouth Invitational, a pre NBA Draft event.
