The city of Elkhart has officially hired a company to demolish its historic armory.
According to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth, a bid from Indiana Earth Inc. was approved. With the bid, the Board of Public Works also approved provisions to prevent any erosion on the property during demolition.
The city made the decision to demolish the two story icon at 200 N. Main St. last week.
The armory sits along the banks of the Elkhart River.
The demolition could begin within a few weeks and is expected to cost just over $140,000.
