Community takes part in Autism Awareness month

April is Autism Awareness Month. The month-long recognition started in the U.S. in the 1970s to give people the opportunity to educate themselves on the growing concern and need for awareness for the disorder.

Autism is known as a spectrum-disorder, meaning kids and adults are affected differently, and require different learning techniques. At the Sonya Ansari Center for Autism, of Logan, they use an ABA, or applied behavioral anaylsis. They offer kids a one-on-one and a hands-on approach to learning in hopes they will reach their full potential and be able to attend mainstreamed schools.

In July, the autism center expanded to its new location in Granger.
