Community art set to decorate DTSB

South Bend, Ind. You may be surprised the next time you drive through downtown South Bend. New art will be showcased throughout 12 different flowerbeds in the city. It’s all part of a new initiative known as DART or Downtown Art.

Downtown South Bend (DTSB), the Neighborhood Resources Corporation (NRC), landscape architect Jonathon Geels and of course the community worked together to help make this initiative happen.

The goal was to bring neighborhood associations, South Bend community organizations, schools and local artists together to create this art for everyone in the city to enjoy.

Each group was given four different pieces of wood, all different sizes and shapes, and they followed the theme, "We are South Bend”.

Then, each group decorated the pieces of wood to transform them into what they want people to know about the people and landmarks in their neighborhood and community that shape South Bend’s identity.

DART will be up all through the summer. All of the projects will be displayed in the next few weeks. For more information or if you want to participate you can contact Joel Barrett at Downtown South Bend, Inc. atjbarrett@downtownsouthbend.com or at (574)986-7289.
