SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The common council unanimously approved a resolution on Monday evening to help combat the recent spike in youth violence.
Henry Davis Junior sponsored the bill, which calls for increasing youth programming and job opportunities.
The idea is to help keep kids busy when they get out of school for the day, and over the summer.
Davis hopes it will lead them to choose a path that does not include violence.
The council will work with the mayor's office and parks department, to expand current programs offered at local youth centers.
Davis would like to focus funding on mentoring and entrepreneur programs already in place at South Bend Youth Centers.
The council and administration will work together to decide on the specifics.
