BENTON HARBOR A city commissioner is commenting on a formal complaint filed against him with the state.
Benton Harbor commissioner Trenton Bowens is accused of violating Michigan’s Campaign Finance Act by not filing proper paperwork with the state.
According to The Herald Palladium, the complaint was filed during the campaign for the city income tax proposal that voters defeated in November.
Bowens says the campaign was all funded through personal resources, not donations, so he says there was no paperwork to file.
The Campaign Finance Act says anyone who spends more than $500 a year to influence voters must file a Statement of Organization form.
