Cold temperatures don't cancel schools in St. Joseph County

Once again temperatures were below zero Tuesday morning and it was frightfully cold, yet none of the major school districts in St. Joseph County cancelled or delayed school.

It was only negative 8 degrees when school was about to start at Mishawaka High School.

Temperatures were also frigid last week and South Bend, PHM, and Mishawaka all called off school for the day.

Superintendents say they need to take student safety into account first if they are considering calling off school, that includes possible frostbite or buses not starting

Mishawaka's Superintendent Dr. Barker said the wind chill wasn't as cold as last week, keeping school in session Tuesday.
