ELKHART The city of Elkhart is looking for money to build sidewalks along a busy street.

A 72-year-old man was killed on Cassopolis Street last month. The city began lobbying for sidewalks in the area decades ago, but they say the incident shows how badly they're needed. The road includes five lanes in some segments and is among the busiest in the city.

It will cost more than a million dollars to put sidewalks along the two mile stretch between CR 4 and Bristol Street. The Elkhart Truth reports that grant money might be able to help with the cost.
