South Bend, Ind. Want to know what's going on in the City of South Bend? Well that just became a lot easier Thursday as the mayor launched a new website intended to make what's happening in city hall a lot more transparent.
A new data portal was designed to provide user-friendly access to data from the city.
Mayor Pete Buttigieg says the website is a work in progress but it's a way to let the people, living and working in the city, know what's going on.
It's all part of an effort to become more transparent so that residents have an easy way to find out exactly what's happening and where.
“There's a lot of information that belongs to the public and we need to make it easier for the public to find,” says South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg. “We want to move toward a future where everything that happens in the city that can be legally shared is easy to find through this portal.”
The website is evolving but will include information for social services, what the city buys and spends, payroll information and even maps of where things are happening from code violations to where parks are opening.
