WATERVLIET A city commissioner in Watervliet has resigned in protest of what he calls a conflict of interest in the community.

Watervliet allows Mayor Dave Brinker to serve an additional role as city manager. That means he is not only an elected official, but a city employee with supervision of other city employees.

According to The Herald Palladium, Commissioner Richard Wicks resigned in protest this week because he feels it violates the city charter.

Mayor Brinker will choose a replacement to fill the remainder of Wicks' four-year term, which began in January 2014.
