SB and Cooper Industries come to agreement on pollution left from Studebaker plant

A long time has passed since Studebaker left South Bend, but only now is the company being held responsible for the pollution it left behind.

The City of South Bend ended up owning and cleaning up much of the property where Studebaker once stood.

In 2003, the City sued Studebaker's Corporate Successor, Cooper Industries, for damages tied to the environmental contamination.

Now, the parties have reached a confidential settlement. While it's not yet known how much the City will be paid, the figure will eventually become public, during the budgeting process.
