Here's a recap of our City By City report from Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013:
The county has just approved a new salary for the sheriff. According to our reporting partners at WKVI, beginning in 2015, he'll make $87,500. State law requires the sheriff to make at least 60% of the prosecuting attorney's salary, which is set by the state. The sheriff could bring in 6 figures though because of extra revenue from tax warrants.
A recovered drug addict will talk about how he started using marijuana at age 13 and ended up addicted to meth. The drugs led him to a suicide attempt, which he survived and now he's helping others avoid the destructive path. The event starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Knox Community Center.
Students at two Goshen elementary schools are flexing their taste buds, trying out a new fruit or vegetable every week, all thanks to IU Health Goshen. The hospital is funding the program at Chandler and West Goshen; two schools with the highest number of students on reduced-price lunches.
Students are mixing it up at lunch on Tuesday. Elkhart Central is one of the many schools nationwide that will participate in a day encouraging students to identify, question and cross social boundaries. The goal is to meet someone new at lunch and help put a stop to bullying. You can learn more about National Mix-it Up at Lunch Day on the Big Red Bar.
