Current schools superintendent Brad Schuldt is leaving at the end of the year and the board has come up with a short list of three finalists to replace him. According to our reporting partners at WKVI, they will announce the new superintendent next Monday but tonight, they're seeking public comment on a new contract. The hearing is at 6:30 p.m. in the Culver board room on School Street.
The school district is raising money and helping residents clean out their basements at the same time. According to our reporting partners at The Herald Palladium they're hosting a recycling drive this week, asking folks to donate old metal items, as well as electronics. The drive runs from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. this Wednesday and Thursday at the high school. You can also drop materials off at Benton Metal Recycling.
Monday begins "Share the Bounty Week”. The goal is to make healthy, local food more accessible. There is a series of events going on all week long. We have a link to the schedule on the Big Red Bar. All events are free and open to the public.
Folks are collecting coats for those in need. The fourth annual coat drive is sponsored by Images Jewelers and the Salvation Army. Their goal is to collect 2,000 coats. They should be clean and in good condition, and they're especially in need of children's coats and plus sizes. You can drop off donations at Images Jewelers, located at 300 East Bristol Street, now through December 21.
Five Star Dive Bar will soon become the Five Star Comedy Bar. At least, that will be the case about once a month. According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, they will bring in comedians from all across the country starting in January. The bar and restaurant is located at 561 East Jackson Boulevard. South Bend native Mijo Bueno will headline the first comedy show on January 9.
It is the grand opening of the new Michiana Healthcare Education Center. An open house will take place Monday night from 6 to 9 p.m. They're located at 8281 Arnt Boulevard in Watervliet. The facility specializes in training healthcare professionals on and off site.
Lincoln Township is changing its trash pickup schedule. Beginning in February, the township will be divided into two pick-up zones. According to our reporting partners at The Herald Palladium, the first zone, along the lake shore and along the township's northern edge, will have a Monday pickup. The rest will be picked up on Thursday.
Potato Creek State Park is closed to allow for controlled deer hunts. It is among 21 Indiana state parks closed Monday and Tuesday and then again December 2-3. Other parks affected include Indiana Dunes, Pokagon and Turkey Run.
A program in Cassopolis is aimed at helping you de-stress and enjoy the holidays. It will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Cass County Council on Aging's Lowe Center, located at 60525 Decatur Road.
