Here's a recap of our City By City report from Wednesday July 9, 2014:
The Tolson Center will host basketball camps at lower prices this year. Former Northwood and Holy Cross player Lindsey Steffen will run girls camps on July 31 and August 1. While the boys camps are going on August 7 and 8 lead by Todd Johnson, who played for Elkhart Memorial and now Northern Kentucky University. The camps are just $5 each, according to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth. Parents can pick up a registration form at the Tolson Center.
The county’s first property auction has been scheduled for Tuesday of next week. It will be held at the DANK building in Benton Harbor starting at 8 a.m. According to our reporting partners at WSJM, a $500 deposit is required to bid.
St. Joseph residents didn't see the disposal trucks come through for what was supposed to be a township-wide storm cleanup consultation Monday. That's because the city decided to hold off on it. They were worried about cost and setting precedent for large-scale operations after storms. "Best-Way" disposal had planned to drive through and help residents figure out what do to with downed trees and limbs. The township board still has to make a final decision on how to move forward.
It's all about bubbles in Plymouth Wednesday. Kids can play with bubbles and even become encased in a soap bubble. The program is taking place at the Hoosier Old Wheels picnic shelter at Centennial Park, from 1 to 3 p.m., and is open to all ages. The Plymouth Public Library is sponsoring the event.
IU Health Goshen is having a one-day shoe sale. Profits benefit the hospital and its scholarships to students going into the medical field. Some of the brands on sale include Timberland, Asics and KSwiss. It’s going on at the hospital in the Legacy Room on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Goodwill Industries has announced it will be holding a free job search workshop next week. It’s going to be at their retail store on State Road 23 in Granger on Tuesday, July 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be resume help and stylist and image consultant Kathy Friend will talk about how to present yourself professionally.
