City By City Report for July 3, 2014

Here's a recap of our City By City report from Thursday July 3, 2014:

Baroda

Fireworks in Baroda Thursday night will be even bigger and better than last year. That's according to the fire department, which helps put on the show. It’s going on behind the American Legion Post 345 at the south end of First Street at dusk. The Legion will also have their beer and brat tent going and live music starts at 7 p.m.

Starke County

Earlier this week, we told you about how Pulaski County was looking for candidates to apply for their November general election ballot. Starke County is looking to meet a deadline too, it's noon Thursday. According to our reporting partners at WKVI, on the republican side, positions like clerk, auditor and coroner still need to be filled. On the democratic ticket there are county council and advisory board positions. They'll generate a full list of candidates for the community by July 8.

Pulaski County

Thursday is the last day of the Pulaski County 4H Fair and Saturday ends the St. Joseph County 4H Fair. The next fairs to get underway will be LaGrange County on Saturday and Kosciusko and Laporte County on Sunday. For the full list you can click here.

Cass County

Cass County's new master plan is almost finished. It includes plans for how the land will be used in six county municipalities, including Pokagon, Edwardsburg and Silver Creek. The master plan hasn't been updated since 2002, according to the Niles Daily Star. A vote for final approval is scheduled for July 23.

Niles

A Niles farm will kick off tart cherry season on the fourth of July. Lehmans Orchard is opening Friday. They're located off of Portage Avenue. They will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. You should bring containers to put your cherries in to take home. They say they have an excellent crop this year.
