City By City Report for July 22, 2014

Here's a recap of our City By City report from Tuesday July 22, 2014:

Benton Harbor

Patrons of the Benton Harbor Public Library may see some changes, as administrators try to make up a $79,000 budget deficit for 2014-2015. According to our reporting partners at the Herald Palladium, to avoid dipping into reserves, the library director said they might have to lay off several workers and possibly be open less days. Talks about whether to combine with the township library were put off until after the August 5 elections.

Goshen

If you're still looking for something to keep your kids busy on this hot summer day, Tuesday is Science Day at Better World Books. Kids will enjoy their monthly science experiment -- called elephant toothpaste -- and it is all hands on. The event starts at 11 a.m. at the Better World Books on South Main Street.

--
We have a boil order to pass along. The city of Goshen is performing a scheduled water main shutdown to replace broken fire hydrants. The boil order is in effect for Huron Street from West Lincoln to Pike Street. If you need to use water, make sure you boil it first. We'll let you know when that order is lifted.

South Bend

"Bubble Mania" is going on at the Western Branch Library Tuesday afternoon. That's located at 611 Lombardy Drive in South Bend. The fun begins at 4 p.m. and is open to all ages. Keep in mind this is an outdoor activity and it is going to be hot today so come prepared.

Kosciusko County

Kosciusko County continues to conduct its summer DUI task force program and they've announced another round of roving patrols and sobriety checkpoints. According to Stacey Page Online, they will be this Friday starting at 10 p.m. and going until 2 a.m. with various local police departments participating.

--
The Food Bank of Northern Indiana is hosting its next mobile food pantry this Friday in Kosciusko County. It will be from 10 a.m. to noon at Combined Community Services on Mariners Drive in Warsaw. You should bring a valid photo ID and something to carry your items home with you.

Mishawaka

USA Skate is offering $2 admission Tuesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. That's about half off. This promotion will happen again next Tuesday too, July 29. This Thursday only from 6 to 8 p.m., meantime, you can get free admission if you bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana. Skate rental will cost extra. Normal admission is $3.50, and that includes skate rental.

Notre Dame

America's Youth on Parade gets started at Notre Dame Tuesday. It is a baton twirling competition that has been held at the university for decades. Girls and boys of all skill levels will battle for different titles and awards through Saturday. All events are held at the Joyce Center and it is free to watch. You can catch it from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. We have a link to the schedule on the Big Red Bar.

Walkerton

Walkerton is preparing to host its annual town wide yard sale this weekend. It's going on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. We have a link on the Big Red Bar with a printable map. You can post your own sale or view the others going on.
