As students head back to school, a local church is planning a "Back to School Bash" this weekend. It will be at First Brethren Church in South Bend on South Ironwood Drive on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a free school supply giveaway, free food, inflatables, games and much more. "Swoop" will even make an appearance.
Berrien County is seeking funding to help make children's lives better. According to our reporting partners at WSJM, they've passed two resolutions which will allow them to apply for $40,000 in grants to fund parent education programs. The goal is to prevent tragic infant sleeping deaths. It would also create support groups, so parents can learn how to create better relationships with their children.
A free voucher program aims to help Starke County residents’ live healthier lives. According to our reporting partners at WKVI, those 60 years and older can now get $20 in vouchers to purchase fruits and vegetables from local farm stands. Officials will hand out vouchers on August 12. You can head to community services of Starke County from 10 to 11 a.m. Or, you can pick up vouchers from the North Judson Senior Center between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. next Tuesday.
The Food Bank of Northern Indiana has announced its August mobile food pantry schedule and the next one will be this Friday, Aug. 8. It will be held at Burket United Methodist Church in Burket, that's in Kosicusko County. It'll take place from 10 a.m. to noon eastern time, first come first serve. You should bring a valid photo ID.
Niles now has a new custom soap shop. According to our reporting partners at the Herald Palladium, Forever Clean Soapworks is located at 1011 Broadway, right next to the Niles Rite Aid. Owner Lisa Miller says she specializes in a variety of scents and her natural soaps have no harsh chemicals. You can even find beer and wine soaps at the shop. She says she planted her store in Niles in order to serve both St Joseph and South Bend residents.
You can make plans now to attend the 59th annual Midwest RV Super Show in Elkhart. It starts this Thursday at the RV/MH Hall of Fame on Executive Parkway. Tickets are $10 and include museum admission. Kids 15 and under get in free with an adult. You can learn more by clicking on this link.
