UPDATE: Chlorine gas leak at Elkhart Wastewater Treatment Plant

Emergency crews responded to a chlorine gas leak at the Elkhart Wastewater Treatment Plant Saturday.

The HAZMAT team was called to the scene, but no injuries have been reported.

Dispatchers tell NewsCenter16 they received the call around 7:45 p.m. Saturday.

Employees were evacuated from the plant, according to our reporting partners atThe Elkhart Truth.

Police closed off Nappanee Street between Lexington and Indiana for a little over an hour.

Police say it is safe to drink the water in the City of Elkhart. They also tell NewsCenter16 they believe the leak is minor.

There is no word of where the leak may have started.
