A child, struck by a car in Mishawaka, was sent to the hospital with injuries earlier this evening.
Witnesses say the boy was riding his bike heading south on Spring Street, when he crossed Lincolnway west during a red light and was hit by an S.U.V in the crosswalk just before 7:30 p.m. "The lady did not have enough time to stop and she smacked right into him," says Monica Laskowsi, who was driving behind the S.U.V and witnessed the accident, "And luckily I was a little ways behind her because I slammed, had to slam on my brakers or I would of smashed into her, which probably would have ran her vehicble more over the little boy."
After he was struck, the boy hobbled to the side of the road, screaming in pain. Bystanders immediately jumped to help him, laying him down and calling 911 for medical assistance. The boy's bike could be seen underneath the stopped S.U.V. When the paramedics arrived, they placed the boy on a stretcher and drove him to the hospital.
As of 10 p.m. police say medics were still at the hospital, there has not yet been an addtional update on the child’s condition.
