Berrien County, Mich. The first case of swine flu in Michigan is confirmed.
A child, who was a swine exhibitor at the Berrien County Youth Fair, contracted the H3N2 influenza. However the child did not have to be hospitalized. A sick pig also tested positive.
Meat processing plants in several states who received pigs from the fair are being notified.
Health officials say the flu strain rarely passes from person to person and it is not a food safety concern.
They also say the fair had good practices in place with hand washing stations and informational posters around the area.
The Berrien County Youth Fair ran August 12-17.
