Charges could be filed against juveniles accused of throwing firework at dog

Elkhart, Ind. Two youth suspected of throwing a lit firework at a puppy could be charged as soon as this week.

According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, the Elkhart Police Department plans to send the case to the county prosecutor’s office.

The incident happened on July 5 when witnesses say children were throwing lit fireworks at the dog. When the dog picked one up, the firework exploded in its mouth.

Police took the dog to the Humane Society of Elkhart County where it had to be euthanized due to its severe injuries.

A $5,000 reward was offered by the Humane Society for any information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
