The case of a 12-year old boy who was sentenced to 30 years in prison for conspiracy to commit murder is now being appealed.
Oral arguments will begin tomorrow in the case of Paul Gingerich. Two years ago, Gingerich pleaded guilty in Kosciusko County in connection with the murder of his friend’s stepfather, Philip Danner. Gingerich and his friend then stole the victim’s car and fled to Illinois.
The Indiana Court of Appeals will hold the oral arguments for the case. Gingerich’s attorneys say that the courts should have conducted a competency evaluation based on the 12-year old’s developmental immaturity in the first trial.
