Carmichael enjoying transition from motocross racing legend to owner

Ricky Carmichael is a 7-time AMA Motocross Champion.

He's just 34-years-old.

And he's retired as an active competitor and is transitioning into life as a team owner.

But if you think he think he still can't go, you have it all wrong. The multi-time RedBud Champion was out on the track on Thursday showing he can still hold his own if he wanted to.

"That was fun," Carmichael said moments after taking a ride on the famous course in Buchanan along with the pros who will compete on Saturday. "We had a good time. These guys are incredibly fast. It's amazing to ride we these guys and watch them. Fun for me at least. Always fun to get on this track."

Carmichael isn't out there just for fun. He's the owner of RCH along with Carey Hart. RCH has two riders--Weston Peick and Ivan Tedesco-- that will compete in Saturday's main event races and Carmichael was showing them the way on Thursday.

"If anyone, he's the one that knows his way around the track so following him is definitely the best route to go," Peick says.

Carmichael could be soon on the track leading his guys through certain sections and giving them tips on how they should attack.

"I found a couple of cool lines that I felt could benefit these guys later in the race on Saturday," Carmichael explains. "I think it might help them so we're looking forward to it. Anything I can do to help, that's what I'm here for."

After a 20-minute ride, the pros took a 20-minute break. Carmichael went over some strategies with his guys then as well before they went back on the track.

"Having Ricky there as a team manager--team owner--he's been through it all," Tedesco says. "Having him on our side and being able to show us stuff--'hey go take this line, don't take that line.' It's good to have him on our side for bike setup. Any time we need to ask questions--he's the guy to ask."

And I'm sure they're glad #4 is on their side and not riding against them on Saturday. The main event races begin at 1pm Saturday with the final broadcast live on WNDU at 3pm.
