BENTON HARBOR A suspect drove a stolen van into a church after fleeing police.

The father of the person who owns the van spotted the vehicle around 6:30 Wednesday night in front of the J&B Party Store on Empire Avenue in Benton Harbor.

Police started to hand cuff the suspect. WSJM reports that they actually had the cuffs around one of his wrists, but he escaped.

He fled in the stolen vehicle, lost control and crashed into the front of the St. Mark Baptist Church.

He will likely face several charges, including auto theft and resisting arrest.
