It was dangerously cold outside and these extremely cold temperatures can be tough on automobiles.
At Rick's 66 on State Road 933 and Auten Road their tow trucks are very busy this time of year picking up cars with trouble because of the cold weather.
When a cold snap hits owner Rick Ferrara says 70 percent of their business is related to the cold weather.
Some of the common problems can be prevented.
It’s important to check the fluids like the anti-freeze, change the batteries every four years and have the oil changed regularly.
Ferrara says, “The big thing is taking care of your car all year long. Don't wait until December 1st or December 12th when its zero degrees outside to try and put a band aid on the problem you've been avoiding for a long time. If you have an issue with your car, make sure you check out before you run into the cold weather.”
Another good idea includes buying a set of winter tires.
It can be costly yet effective. However not everyone wants to bother with the hassle of storing them and labor of having them changed.
